WHEN: 7 November - 13 November, 2012 from 11.00am - 8.00pm
WHERE: Al-Madina Theatre, Hamra
Al Madina Theatre hosts this photo exhibition organized by UNRWA in partnership with The Image Festival Association - Zakira, by Palestinian refugee children in Lebanon. Shelters, displacement and education through their lens.
The exhibition narrates the unknown stories of people living inside the camps to the people living outside them. The positive impact of shelter rehabilitation in 11 Palestine refugee camps, after decades of being in a dire state, is a glimpse of hope for thousands of refugees.
In parallel to these images, the exhibition also walks us through the temporary accommodations inhabited by displaced refugees in Nahr el-Bared Camp (NBC) in North Lebanon following its destruction in 2007. 95% percent of the camp's buildings were destroyed with approximately 27,000 Palestinian refugees displaced.
This exhibition, generously funded by the European Union, is a personal narrative photographed by children and youth from the camps on the shelter conditions that they endure. The life of a family of refugees from Beirut’s Shatila camp experiences a real transformation as the joyful spirit bouncing among the family members is a recent development. The mother, father and five children enjoy the changes which include a bigger bathroom, repaired kitchen, new corridor, and expanded bedroom.
